Panama´s lead as the country with the most shipping registered under her flag is impressive.  The registry was established in 1925 and today Panama has a fleet of 171,793,434 tons, a figure which represents 21.60% of world gross tonnage.  Liberia is Panama´s main competitor with 78,460,510 tons, representing only 9.87%.
