Coiba is an ecotourist's delight. Bird life, marine life and flora are abundant and unique to the area.
A visit to the former penal colony can be interesting. From 1914 to 2004 Coiba was home to the most secure prison in Panama a fact which accounts for the untouched condition of its wildlife since visitors were prohibited.
Fishing around the island is an amazing experience. Inshore, snapper, snook and jacks abound. A permit must be obtained for inshore fishing. It costs $50 per boat and all fish must be released.
