Coiba Island Panama

Ecotourism

Coiba is an ecotourist's delight.  Bird life, marine life and flora are abundant and unique to the area.

Visit the former Penal Colony

A visit to the former penal colony can be interesting.  From 1914 to 2004 Coiba was home to the most secure prison in Panama a fact which  accounts for the untouched condition of its wildlife since visitors were prohibited.

Fishing

Fishing around the island is  an amazing  experience.  Inshore,  snapper, snook and jacks abound. A permit must be obtained for inshore fishing.  It costs $50 per boat and all fish must be released.  Further afield marlin, tuna, sailfish and wahoo can be caught. No permit is needed and you can keep the fish.  The company Exploration Panama can arrange trips. Tel (507) 720 2470.

Diving

Diving is another rewarding experience in this area,  Boca Bravo Divers is a good company to deal with. Tel: (507) 775 3185 or (507) 660 6191
