Last year Panama announced plans to build a $200 million dollar convention center on the capital city’s waterfront. The new Minister of Economy and Finance, Frank De Lima, says that the Financial Tower project has been suspended and that it had been headed up by former Minister Alberto Vallarino of the Panameñista Party. He said that while the project has been opposed by many sectors, he will meet with the team that has to do with this project to make a final decision.

The issuance of bonds by the National Highway Company (ENA) for buying the Northern Corridor would be of more volume than originally announced. The ENA will raise the issue of bonds by $114 million to get the funds to pay for the extension of the freeway to the suburb of 24 de December.

About 4,256 foreigners were legalized for a two year period during the Seventh Special Immigration reorganization process, which took place last week in the Roberto Duran gymnasium. An estimated 15,000 foreigners are still illegal in Panama without work permits.
